Forty thousand Israelis, led by Sephardic Chief Rabbi Yitzhak Nissan and Rabbi M. Goren, Chief Chaplain of the Israel Army, made a pilgrimage to the grave of Rabbi Bar Yochai author of the “Zohar,” at Miron last night as the celebration of the festival of Lag B’Omer began.

The festivities began when a huge procession started from Safed and headed for Miron. When they arrived there, they were greeted by a 21-gun salute by units of the armed forces, who later paraded. Services were then held for the men and women who fell in the War of Liberation. Later, bonfires were lit and thousands of pilgrims danced through the night. Similar festivities took place in this city and in many other cities, towns and villages.
