The Home Office was expected today to make an early decision on its attitude, in the event of war, toward the 40,000 refugees now in England.
According to newspapers here, it may be decided to intern all male refugees temporarily and to release them individually as soon as the Home Office is satisfied with regard to their new status. A measure of supervision may also be employed through local police stations.
The German-Jewish Aid Committee announced today receipt of a cable from the Trinidad Jewish Association asking it to “convey to the Government the fact that the Jews of Trinidad, including refugees, are completely loyal to Britain.” The cable said the refugees were all “mindful of the hospitality and gratefully pledge their support.”
