A gang of some 70 Syrians set fire to the fields of Kibbutz Dan, in Upper Galilee, today, destroying some 10 acres of crops, an Israel military spokesman announced here.

The Syrians attempted unsuccessfully to kidnap one of the settlers who rushed to put out the fire. The Israelis did manage to save a combine from the blaze by speedily removing it from the area. The Syrians attempted to hamper the work of controlling the fire by stoning the Jews as they worked.

The spokesman also reported two cases of Jordan troop penetration of Israel territory in the area overlooking the Jerusalem-Tel Aviv highway. When an Israeli patrol moved up to intercept them, the Jordanians withdrew.

United Nations Truce Supervision Organization headquarters here announced yesterday that it had completed 12 new observation posts along the Israel-Egyptian border of the Gaza strip. The posts all unmanned as yet, are located six on Israel soil and six on Egyptian-controlled territory.
