750 Jews in Orleansville; Their Fate Still Unknown

Jewish organizations here continued efforts this week-end to establish contact with the Jewish community of Orleansville, in Algeria, scene of violent earth shocks which destroyed a large part of the city and cost an estimated one thousand lives.

The city has a Jewish consistory and a Jewish population of about 750 souls; Efforts to establish direct communications with Orleansville are unsuccessful because of the damage to lines and the interruption of traffic. So far, the Jewish consistory in Algiers, about one hundred miles distant from the stricken town, has not been able to ascertain the fate of the Orleansville Jews.
