The 80th anniversary of American Reform Judaism–introduced in 1873 by the late Rabbi Isaac Mayer Wise–was commemorated tonight at a dinner of American Jewish leaders from all sections of the United States held at the Waldorf Astoria.
Speakers at the dinner emphasized the role which the Reform movement plays in American Jewish life. They pointed out that 450 temples are now affiliated with the Union of American Hebrew Congregations and that the Hebrew Union College is the oldest Jewish seminary in the United States. One of the highlights of the evening was the presentation of a plaque to the children and other descendants of Rabbi Wise, including Mrs. Albert J. May, Mrs. Arthur Hays Sulzberger and Rabbi Jonah B. Wise, of the Central Synagogue.
