A Chasidic boy died after plummeting 10 floors down an elevator shaft in his Brooklyn apartment building.
Jacob Neuman, 5, and his 8-year-old brother became trapped between floors in the elevator of their South Williamsburg building on their way to yeshiva.
Police said Jacob hit the elevator’s buttons, and when the door opened he jumped down 2 feet to the 10th floor landing, then lost his footing and fell down the shaft.
The Brooklyn district attorney will investigate whether the New York City Housing Authority was negligent in its upkeep of the elevator at 70 Clymer St., which had been reported several times as malfunctioning.
South Williamsburg is a heavily Chasidic area.
