A controversial Canadian Indian leader was rejected as a candidate for a national committee. Only days after David Ahenakew was nominated, Canada’s Assembly of First Nations rejected the former native leader as a candidate to sit on the federally funded aboriginal committee. Ahenakew, who provoked controversy in December 2002 by praising Hitler’s attempt to exterminate Jews, is awaiting trial on hate-related charges.
