A German document recently obtained by the Jewish Agency for Israel shows that Jews are owed $270 million in today’s currency to cover insurance claims for destruction caused during Kristallnacht. The destruction took place on the night of Nov. 9-10, 1938, when Nazi thugs ransacked Jewish-owned shops and set synagogues ablaze across Germany and Austria.
