A Hollywood film that opens next week throughout the United States features a mathematician named Max Cohen who is hunted by a group of Chasidic students of Kabbalah. In “Pi,” the Chasidim are searching for Cohen because they believe that the mathematician has the key to bringing about the Messiah.
