A Jewish women’s group wants the presidential candidates to make the issue of domestic violence a priority.
A petition asking the candidates to make fighting domestic violence a priority both during the election and throughout their administration is part of Jewish Women International’s “Agents of Change” campaign recognizing October as Domestic Violence Awareness Month.
The effort also includes a tool kit to help facilitate a dialogue about the issue with local candidates and a blog that will post victims’ stories every day in October.
“Domestic violence affects one in four women in the United States, yet it’s still largely absent from our national and community dialogues,” said Loribeth Weinstein, the executive director of JWI. “Domestic Violence Awareness Month gives communities an opportunity to speak up about the issue, to give it the voice it deserves and let victims know they’re not alone.”
