A Knesset committee voted to lift the parliamentary immunity of an Israeli Arab legislator. The step against Azmi Beshara was taken on the recommendation of Attorney General Elyakim Rubinstein. Rubinstein requested the step after Beshara made a speech in Syria earlier this year in which he called upon the Arab world to unite against the “warmongering” government of Prime Minister Ariel Sharon.
