A New York City yeshiva received a three-year grant from AmeriCorps for its mentoring program for at-risk youth. Yeshiva Kehilath Yaakov in Brooklyn will get $277,093. The grant is renewable as long as Kehilath Yaakov meets the AmeriCorps criteria. AmeriCorps is a government agency that connects 70,000 Americans annually to meet needs in education, public safety, health and the environment. U.S. Sen. Hillary Rodham Clinton (D-N.Y.) welcomed the grant. “Leading by example is an important component in healthy communities,” she said, “and this grant promotes positive reinforcement for at-risk youth through expanded mentoring programs.”
