The “86th Salon des Independents,” now showing a retrospective look at women painters and sculptors since the 17th Century, noted that a group of artists had refused to participate. “The presence of a few blank canvases is a manifestation of our disapproval of an organization, created to defend culture throughout the world, which exiles from its community a people whose history is millenary,” the artists stated.
