A prison parole board refused to grant an early release to former Shas Party leader Aryeh Deri. The board rejected the former cabinet minister’s request to be released from prison after serving half of his four-year sentence. After a trial that lasted four years, Deri was convicted of pocketing $155,000 while holding several top positions in the Interior Ministry in the late 1980s and early 1990s.
