News Brief

A research satellite jointly built by China, Iran and Thailand was launched on a Chinese rocket, an Iranian minister said.

Telecommunications Minister Mohammad Soleimani announced that Sunday’s launch of the satellite, equipped with cameras to boost cooperation in the aftermath of natural disasters, was successful.

The announcement comes less than a month after Iran said it successfully launched a test satellite on an Iranian-made rocket for the first time. The United States said the August launch was a failure.

Iran has been working to develop its space program in recent months, Reuters reported.
