A retired Egyptian admiral claimed to have sunk an Israeli submarine that was lost at sea in 1968. The weekend edition of the London-based newspaper Asharq al-Awsat quoted Mohammed Azeb as saying that a boat under his command intercepted and sank the Dakar while it was on a mission to assassinate Egypt’s then-President Gamal Abdel Nasser.
