A senior Israeli military commander said Israel has a ready plan to mount a major attack in Gaza to deter Hamas’ rearmament in the strip, but time is running out to implement it.
The unnamed general told Israeli reporters Thursday that Hamas is massively building up its capabilities in Gaza and that the Israel Defense Forces has a plan of attack. But he said the opportunity to strike may soon pass given potential international acceptance of Hamas’ rule in Gaza weeks after the Islamist terrorist group ousted Fatah rivals in a bloody confrontation last month.
Israel has held off on ordering a large-scale military operation in Gaza despite ongoing rocket attacks from there into nearby Israeli communities.
