A synagogue co-founded by novelist Herman Wouk is celebrating its 50th anniversary. Great Neck Synagogue on Long Island, N.Y., was one of the first Orthodox synagogues in the affluent New York suburb. Great Neck now has a large Orthodox presence – including one of the largest concentrations of Iranian Jews in the United States.
