A Syrian official said Israel would be the only country to benefit from a confrontation between Syria and Turkey. Defense Minister Mustafa Tlas’ comment came as Damascus and Ankara reportedly prepared to hold talks for the first time since a crisis flared up earlier this month over Syria’s support for Kurdish nationalists in Turkey. Israel and Turkey have greatly increased military cooperation during the last few years.
