A terrorist who tried to kill a top Israeli official was a former bodyguard for Yasser Arafat. Israeli security sources revealed that Issa Darbiya, 32, who is being held by Israeli security forces, planted a roadside bomb near a convoy carrying the Israel Defense Force chief of staff, Lt. Gen. Shaul Mofaz, near Hebron last month. No one was injured in the Nov. 25 attack, and Darbiya told interrogators he did not know Mofaz was in the convoy.
