A U.S. congressman berated Shimon Peres, the Israeli deputy prime minister, about Israel’s treatment of Christians in the West Bank. Rep. Henry Hyde (R-Ill.), chairman of the House of Representatives’ International Relations Committee, read out talking points about the effects of Israel’s security policies on the dwindling Palestinian Christian community when Peres met in private with the committee two weeks ago. Hyde referred specifically to Israel’s West Bank security barrier.
