About half the Palestinians in the West Bank and Gaza Strip are living on less than $2 a day. The United Nations’ envoy to the Middle East, Terje Roed-Larsen, said almost half the Palestinian population is living in poverty and that the territories’ economy has suffered a $3.4 billion loss since the violent uprising against Israel began a year ago.
