Critical acclaim came today to a 68-year-old Bronx grandmother whose strikingly detailed oil painting, “Leopard of the Bronze Zoo,” won the first prize gold medal for oil paintings in the Fourth National Amateur Painters Competition sponsored by Art News Magazine.
Prize-winning Mrs. Rebecca Pincus took up painting as a hobby and taught herself to paint after hours when she worked as a seamstress. She came to this country from her native Russia while in her early twenties and received her only formal art instruction at a Bronx adult education center.
