Charges that the Ebinger Baking Company is contributing funds in support of Nazi activity in this country and abroad, were branded as false by the American Jewish Congress yesterday.
A statement absolving the organization was issued following an investigation by the boycott committee of the organization, of which Dr. Joseph Tenenbaum is chairman, substantiating the denials of the Ebinger Company. The probe was intimated after the offices of the American Jewish Congress had received numerous complaints declaring the Ebinger Company was friendly to the Nazis and discriminating against the employment of Jews. In a communication received from George Ebinger, vice president of the concern, and confirmed by investigation, these charges are disproved.
Mr. Ebinger states further that his organization does not import any German goods. The investigation of the American Jewish Congress has established that Jewish girls are employed as supervisors in several of the Ebinger shops in Brooklyn.
Ebinger’s communication declared: “of course the rumors are untrue. They could only be conceived by some irresponsible persons seeking to make trouble. Neither the Ebinger Baking Company, nor any of its officers have ever sent funds to Germany or subscribed to the Nazi cause.
“This firm in its employment policy has never discriminated as to race, creed or color; and further we do not import any German goods.”
The American Jewish Congress states it has substantiated that the ingredients and other materials used for baking by the Ebinger Company are domestic, and that there are Jewish supervisors at three Brooklyn branches of the firm.
