The Board of Aldermen adopted a resolution yesterday protesting against religious persecution of Catholics and Jews in Mexico.
Introduced by Alderman Paul Gallagher of Queens, the resolution urges the President and Congress “to show in some tangible manner that the government of the United States condemns the suppression of the rights of man in the discrimination against religionists of the Christian and Jewish faith in Mexico.”
Only one alderman, Lambert Fairchild of Manhattan, refrained from voting. He explained his refusal to go on record by stating he resented efforts on the part of any government agency to interfere in the internal affairs of a foreign government.
At the same session the Board adopted a resolution urging the United States to take over the manufacture of all war munitions. The resolution was offered by Alderman Max Gross of the Bronx.
