Algerian President Houari Boumedienne today denounced the Rogers Plan and the Middle East cease-fire as a “cover-up to recognize Israel and surrender to the imperialists.” At a military pared in Algiers at which he welcomed home the Algerian troops which had been stationed at the Suez Canal front, Pres. Boumedienne declared that Algeria supported the Palestinian guerrilla organizations “without any reservations” even if this should “strain our relations with a number of Arab countries.” Though the Algerian president has often criticized the Rogers plan and cease-fire in the past, today’s statement was his most violent on the subject leading French observers to believe that Algeria has joined Iraq in an anti-Egyptian front in the current inter-Arab struggle.
