General Sir George Fletcher MacMunn, British Quartermaster General of India, when asked by a representative of the jewish Telegraphic Agency whether the report published in the Jerusalem paper, “Doar Ha’yom”, that he will be the next High Commissioner of Palestine was correct, declared that he himself was surprised to learn of his possible appointment to the post from a Jewish Telegraphic Agency despatch published in the London press.

“I visited Palestine five years ago, when I was Commander in Chief of the British Army in Mesopotamia”, General MacMunn declared. “Perhaps the plan has been discussed. Or it may be an official secret, but it has not yet been communicated to me.”
