A group of 17 Christian leaders left today for Israel, Jordan and Egypt to study Arab-Israeli relations. The group is composed of clergymen, journalists, educators and civic leaders from all parts of the United States. Its study tour is being sponsored by the American Christian Palestine Committee.
A statement issued by the group prior to its departure, reads: “This trip is designed as an adventure in understanding. We desire sympathetically to study the problems facing the peoples of the Middle East, both Arabs and Jews, and to seek answers assuring a greater measure of democratic freedoms and material well-being to a region of overwhelming need. We firmly believe it is neither necessary nor desirable to ‘choose up sides’ in the conflict between the Arab states and Israel; rather is it necessary to urge substantial help for both peoples to lay foundations for permanent peace in the Middle East.”
