The American Jewish Congress is contemplating manning a request to the United States to demand indemnification of Lebanon for the 41 American citizens who were forcibly removed from an Israel-hound vessel and interned in a Lebanese concentration camp, it was announced today.
Rabbi Irving Miller, executive committee chairman of the Congress, said today it is shocking to realize the complaisant attitude taken in this case by the State department. The Department ignominiously allowed the Lebanese to remove U.S. citizens from one of our vessels and further capitulated to Lebanon’s dictation that these Americans be released only if they returned to their starting point,” he added.
