American Jewish writer Susan Sontag, a harsh critic of both the U.S. and Israeli governments, received one of Germany’s most prestigious awards. Sontag, a favorite of German intellectuals, received the Peace Prize of the Frankfurt Book Fair on Sunday. In accepting the Jerusalem Prize in 2001, she condemned Israeli policies, including Israel’s “disproportionate use of fire power” against the Palestinians.
