At least fifteen ambulances now in service with the British and Allied forces in England, Canada, Egypt and the Near East were paid for entirely by prominent Jewish organizations or individuals, it was disclosed here today by William V.C. Ruxton, president of the British American Ambulance Corps.
These include the first of almost two hundred equatorial type ambulances sent by the corps to the Anzac forces in Africa. Donor of the initial light-weight desert mercy vehicle was the Women’s League for Palestine. Other ambulances were donated by the Daniel Guggenheim Foundation and Hadassah, while sizeable contributions were received from various B’nai B’rith chapters throughout the United States. Three were accounted for by members of New York’s Harmony Club.
