The American Legion and the Veterans of Foreign Wars today asked the immigration subcommittee of the Senate Judiciary Committee to keep displaced persons out of the U.S.
Gen. John T. Taylor, legislative director of the Legion, told the subcommittee that the Legion feels that those now in DP camps are not really war victims and merely wish to “take advantage of the situation.” He asserted that the Legion is against “special interest groups.” He noted, however, that the Legion approved the U.N. partition plan for Palestine and recommended that all those who wished to go there be aided in that direction.
