The American OSE Committee has established national branches of the OSE, Jewish health organization, in ten Latin American countries, it was reported at the 10th annual meeting of the Committee here.
The American group has also been the pioneer in the opening of 11 institutions for preventive medicine in Latin American communities, including a school for nurses in Buenos Aires and a modern polyclinic hospital in Mexico City, the report said. The Committee also conducts work in Israel and Morocco.
Dr. Israel Wechsler, chairman of the board of directors, told the meeting that “these remarkable achievements were made possible through the sympathy of the Jewish people for the welfare work of the organization.” He also lauded the officers of the organization for “spreading the ideas of OSE work over many countries in the Western Hemisphere.”
The meeting expressed “deep gratitude” to Dr. Leon Wulman, executive director, for his devoted work and “for his courage in the face of almost insuperable obstacles.” The Committee decided to inscribe Dr. Wulman’s name in the Golden Book of the Jewish National Fund for “his more than 30 years of devoted service in the field of public health among the Jewish people throughout the world.”
