American Rabbi, Only Jewish Spiritual Leader in Berlin, Resigns

Rabbi N. F. Levinson, the only rabbi in Berlin, has resigned from his post as a result of differences of opinion with the Berlin Jewish Community. Rabbi Levinson, who is an American citizen, will return to the United States.

The executive of the Jewish Community revealed differences developed when the rabbi, ignoring instructions from the executive, made political statements in public which were considered dangerous to the safety of Jews in the Communist part of Germany; Rabbi Levinson insisted that it was his duty to warn the Jews in East Germany. of the dangers they faced under the Communists regime.
