Americans, almost three-to-one, sympathize with Israel in its conflicts with the Arab states, a Trendex News Poll indicated today.
When a scientifically-selected cross-section of Americans of all faiths was asked whether they sympathize with the Israelis or the Arabs, the replies were Israelis, 60.8 percent; Arabs 21.5 percent; indefinite, 17.7 percent. The principal reasons for sympathizing with the Israelis were: The Bible said the Jews were to have a homeland there; the Arabs are allied with Communism; the Jews are more progressive than the Arabs, and Arabs are largely sympathetic to United Arab Republic President Gamal Abdel Nasser, called a threat to peace.
