An American serving a life sentence for spying for Israel asked President Clinton for a chance to defend himself when his case comes up for presidential review. Jonathan Pollard’s letter to Clinton came after Clinton asked several top-level administration officials to submit recommendations by Jan. 11 on whether to release Pollard, who has been in an American jail since 1987. In the letter, Pollard’s lawyer said there were similarities between his client’s situation and Clinton’s as he faces impeachment.
