An essay contest on the history of Blacks in Canada as its theme has been won by two Jewish high school students here. The competition was sponsored by the National Black Coalition of Canada and the first and second prizewinners in the 13-15 year old category were David Adelman and Joanne Markson of Oakwood Collegiate Institute. Adelman’s essay dealt with the life of Toronto’s first Black Alderman, William Hubbard, elected 13 times between 1894 and 1913.
