An estimated 150,000 people gathered in Vienna in the largest protest yet against the inclusion of Jorg Haider’s far-right Freedom Party in the new Austrian government. After holding demonstrations across the city in pouring rain and low temperatures, the protesters converged on the Heldenplatz, or Heroes’ Square, where thousands of Austrians welcomed Hitler in 1938.
