An interfaith summit planned during Pope John Paul II’s pilgrimage to the Holy Land later this month is in jeopardy because the mufti of Jerusalem, the highest Muslim official there, refuses to participate. Israel’s Ashkenazi chief rabbi, Yisrael Meir Lau, said Israel’s chief rabbis have already agreed to participate.
