An Israeli committee approved a bill that would change the Knesset vote for president from a closed ballot to an open one. The so-called “Peres bill,” which passed the Ministerial Committee for Legislation in a 7-5 vote on Sunday, goes next to the Knesset, where it does not have majority backing.
