An Israeli lawmaker asked the army’s chief rabbi to allow construction of the West Bank security barrier to continue over Shabbat. “The faster the fence is built, the greater the chance of saving Israeli lives,” the Likud’s Gilad Adran said Wednesday in a letter to Rabbi Yisrael Weiss, the chief chaplain of the Israel Defense Forces. “I would therefore like to request that you examine the possibilities, within the framework of Jewish law, of allowing work to continue during Shabbats.”
