An Israeli settler who killed a Palestinian driver was charged with manslaughter. According to the indictment served Monday at Tel Aviv District Court, Yehoshua Elitzur opened fire on the taxi driven by Saal Al-Shtaya outside Nablus last month without justification. Elitzur, a German convert to Judaism and a resident of Itamar, told police he shot Shtaya in self-defense after the Palestinian tried to run him down, but prosecutors said the shooting was unprovoked.
