In the darkest days of Nazi rule, on Nov. 26. 1940, Prof. R. Cleveringa of the Leyden University lectured to his students and protested against the dismissal of all “non-Aryans,” including his famous colleague, M. Meyers, professor of jurisprudence. After the war ended and since then, the university has remembered that famous lecture each year. This year a decision was taken to discontinue the anti-Nazi ceremony of remembrance. Asked by the press why this was done, a spokesman for the university stated the ceremony was not meaningful any more for the younger generation.
