Chicago, which has shown hospitality to all people from all countries, may turn a cold shoulder to the American brand of Hitlerites.
An appeal to shun Nazis, has been made, it was learned today, to the management of the Hotel Stevens, where a national DAWA convention is scheduled to be held October 21-23.
Writing in the name of his committee, liberty and civilization, Dr. James M. Yard, secretary of the Chicago Committee for the Defense of Human Rights Against Nazism, asked that the management prohibit the convention in the hotel.
Dr. Yard has also written to a number of organizations which have been meeting at the Hotel Stevens, requesting that they join the protest. He has asked support from, among others: Adolph Copeland, leader of HIAS; Mrs. Harry Berkman of Hadassah, and Sigmund David of the Chicago Section of the American Jewish Congress.
The DAWA is an organization of Germans and German Americans in this country engaged in boycotting all American Jewish concerns and others that refuse to buy German goods.
