Telesio Interlay, editor of IL Tevere, Italy’s most rabidly anti-Semitic newspaper, was today appointed director of the newly-established Department for Demography and Race Protection in the Ministry of Interior.

Naval Commander Federigo Jarach, president of the Union of Italian Jewish Communities, submitted a memorandum to the Ministry of Interior regarding the current anti-Jewish campaign. He was told by an undersecretary that for the time being anti-Jewish measures would be directed only against foreign Jews. This was interpreted as meaning that no measures against Italian Jews would be taken before the meeting of the Fascist Grand Council opening Oct. I.
