Although its author, Gen. Manie Maritz, has been convicted and sentenced for promoting racial hostility through the sale and distribution of “My Life and Struggle,” the book itself may still be purchased in the Union, it was revealed today by the Johannesburg Star.
The newspaper pointed out that the Interior Minister has the power to prohibit importation of literature but is unable to prevent its sale if published within the Union.
In an editorial on the situation, the Star declared that there were objections to increasing the discretionary powers of the censor but that there was “every justification” for empowering him to prohibit the sale of books which had been condemned in court.
