Anti-Semitic newspapers in Brazil have started a campaign against Horacia Lafer, the only Jewish member of the Brazilian Cabinet, who holds the post of Minister of Finance.

The anti-Jewish press emphasizes his Jewishness by calling him “Rabbi Lafer.” Sr. Lafer, whose parents immigrated to Brazil about 60 years ago from Lithuania, was born in Brazil. President Vargas named him Minister of Finance two years ago. Earlier, he was chairman of the finance committee of the Brazilian Senate.
