Japanese Ambassador Yoshida today denied reports that an anti-Semitic movement was afoot in his country, and added that no question had arisen in Tokio regarding refugees from Austria and Germany.

An Embassy statement to the Jewish Telegraphic Agency said Ambassador Yoshida “has the pleasure of declaring there is no truth to the rumor that an anti-Jewish movement is afoot, nor has any question risen regarding Jewish refugees from Austria and Germany.”

“The Japanese have no racial prejudice against the Jews,” the statement added. “The Japanese Government treats Jews on equal terms with other aliens, no person being ejected solely on the ground of his or her being Jewish.”
