One officer and two soldiers were wounded in a pitched battle yesterday between recalcitrant anti-Semitic students and the military who were called to dislodge the students from University building wherein they had barricaded themselves. The soldiers succeeded finally in over-powering the student body and arrested eighteen of the ringleaders. The University has been closed in consequence of the battle.
Rector Simonescu of the University of Jassy is described in dispatches from there as “desperate”, the anti Semitic student body having erected barricades on the campus, hoisting the Fascisti banner over the principal building.
Ninety-seven students, most of them Jews, have been expelled from classes for various periods, as a result of a free-for-all fight which took place at the University of Klausenberg.
