On this festival of peace, the Catholic Church calls upon all Christian people to abandon hate and to repudiate the teachings of antisemitism directed against the Jews, God’s Chosen People, Father Bichlmair, a famous Catholic preacher here said in a Christmas message broadcast to-day by the Austrian Government wireless. The Jewish people have given the Christian world our Saviour, he went on, and the attitude of Christian people should therefore be one of gratitude and love to the Jews. Antisemitism is contrary to the teachings of the Catholic Church, he declared, and a constant source of grief to the Pope, who has repeatedly called upon Christians not to harbour feelings of enmity against the people from whom the Saviour sprung.
